WILL CONGRESS SEAT GEORGE SANTOS?
George Santos, the newly elected member of Congress from New York, won his seat with a series of lies. He claimed to have graduated from universities he never attended. He claimed to have experience working for respected business institutions, all of whom say he was never employed. He claimed that his Jewish grandparents were survivors of the Holocaust. His grandparents were not Jewish and had no relationship with the Holocaust. Congress must decide whether to seat a man who only won his election by pretending to be someone he is not. American democracy has declined dramatically in recent days, but this may be a step too far. Mr. Santos ran as a Republican. Republicans, who now have a bare majority in the House, must decide whether or not to seat such a man. If they embrace him, this will tell us as much about them as it does about Mr. Santos.
